Nothing Like It in the World: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad 1863-1869 Stephen Ambrose

Nothing Like It in the World: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad 1863-1869 Stephen Ambrose

Fantastic book about building the railroad that opened up the west. I learnt about the history of the united states, lobbying, western US, california, immigration labor, racism against the asian americans, ingenuity of the engineers, ruthlessness of the early capitalists, government-industry nexus of colloboration and exploitation, poor working conditions, business competition, visionaries, wallstreet and financing in the early years and much more.
